| Hurricanger fic |
[Aug. 26th, 2007|06:03 pm] |
It's been so long since I posted fanfiction, and I'm nervous. However, I need to get some of these out! I have so many Ikkou/Yousuke fics written or partially written for the 30_smiles challenge that it seems absurd to keep them to myself. So... ~deep breath~ Here goes.
Title: In the Beginning Fandom: Ninpuu Sentai Hurricanger Author: Chyck Character/relationship: Shiina Yousuke (Hurricane Red) / Kasumi Ikkou (Kabuto Raijer); Isshu is a major player, too Theme number: #1 Bull’s eye, #28 Crazy Disclaimer: Gratuitous use of a rock quarry… oh, and the characters aren’t mine Summary: Occurs after episode 19. The Goraijer more-or-less decide to help the Hurricanger.

Well, despite never posting, I AM reading LJ, and I've been tagged for the first time for a meme. What does meme stand for, anyway? And I don't know how to link journals. Sorry!
Each player of this game starts off with 10 weird things/habits/little known facts about yourself. People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 10 weird habits/things/little known facts as well as state this rule clearly. At the end you need to choose 10 people to be tagged and list their names. No tag backs.
Tagged by zuppi
1. My favorite part of my body is my right shoulder. I have a tattoo of the Japanese Kanji for "Freedom" as well as a scar from a horse bite. It adds character.
2. I cannot ride a bike.
3. I can, however, ride almost any horse out there (with varying degrees of success). I have been riding for 15 years.
4. I sometimes give inanimate objects names. My car is "Midnight", Christmas trees are all "Ferdinand", the couch is "Squishy" and so on...
5. Gloves don't fit me. My fingers are small and my thumb is too big for my hand.
6. I don't eat animals that had legs... so I'm an ovo-lacto-fishivore (technical term, yes)
7. I don't think I can sing, but I can still beat all my friends at Karaoke Revolution
8. I met Christopher Reeve when I was a kid at a horse show. It was, in fact, the last horse show he completed before his accident. I remember thinking "Wow, that guy looks like he's gonna' fall off" a couple of times. Alas, there was a reason he got hurt :(.
9. I hate bats. Bats are creepy.
10. I was a professional picture framer throughout college.
Tagging these people because they have a slight chance of actually reading this:
amazonstorm, angel_negra, estirose, itsbuttery, littlesecretsdt, mariko_azrael, obsessivemuch, scifislasher, werewolf_song, windchaserc
Again, sorry I don't know how to link to your journals! |

If you're overly sensitive to issues of racism, don't bother listening to this. However, if you're a normal person, feel free to laugh like crazy.
Brought to you by Avenue Q, Power Rangers, and one awesome video-artist...

I spend way too much time at YouTube - but then again, I often find gems like this in both the PR world and many other fandoms. A fanvid dedicated to all of the evil-turned-good rangers in PR history. These are the characters I've always been partial to.
Go see this if you haven't. It is decidedly awesome.

stolen from obsessive_much, because my fic writing has hit the wall... I have 10 fics in process, and none of them are satisfactory enough to be posted
1. Are you named after anyone? If so, explain.
No - I was supposed to be named for a character from Little Women, but my sister got "Beth" and my parents' friends all had the other first names or close to them. Somehow "Lynne" came from that
2. Do you have your children's names picked out already? If so, is there any significance?
I plan on having no children... ever! However, I've always loved the name "Robyn" for a girl.
3. If you were born a member of the opposite sex what would your name have been?
I was supposed to be a boy (way to mis-identify, doc). I would have been Scott.
4. If you could re-name yourself what name would you pick and why?
Nah - my name's good. I wanted to change it 10,000 times when I was younger, but now I'm glad I didn't!
5. Are there any mispronunciations/typos that people do w/ your name constantly?
Ah - my mother and her silent "e"s. Everyone forgets the "e". Even on my 6th grade graduation certificate, there was no "e". Fortunately, they got it right for high school and college. My name has also been spelled Lynn, Lyn, Linn, Lin... etc. etc. |

Ah! NOW I know why all of the Hurricanger fics I start come from Yousuke's POV!
Which character from Ninpu Sentai Harikenja are you?
~cracks up~ For anyone who can't read it, the end says "You are, unfortunately, a Luffy/Goku type, and you are kind of, well, dumb" ROFL! |

| Ikkou / Yousuke fic |
[May. 30th, 2006|05:37 pm] |
My gosh, it's a fic by Chyck! It must be an apochalypse! No, not really - but I recently purchased the full season of Ninpuu Sentai Hurricanger (The Sentai predecessor of Ninja Storm), and have become a dorky fangirl of the Ikkou (Kabuto Raijer) / Yousuke (Red Hurricanger) pairing. I decided to join the 30_smiles group and get my writing muses n' creative juices flowing again.
Without further ado, my first attempt at a fic (eep! Scary!) in quite a while in a new fandom
Here's hoping I can LJ cut this correctly...
Fandom: Ninpuu Sentai Hurricanger Title: How Author: Chyck Theme(s): #9 Floral scent/musk & #20 Crows Pairing/Characters: Shiina Yousuke (Hurricane Red) / Kasumi Ikkou (Kabuto Raijer); smattering of other characters mentioned Rating: PG Disclaimer: The boys of Hurricanger aren’t mine, alas. I took some liberties on “filling in” what might happen between episodes. Summary: ( Read more... ) |

| To like or not to like... on Omega |
[Aug. 2nd, 2005|08:05 pm] |
So, werewolf_song pointed out the fact that I never update my lil' lj. Hah - I didn't realize it was THIS bad, but it is. Ah well. Anyway, some random bits that have been bouncing in my mind about our newest ranger.
I'm not sold on the Omega Ranger yet. Yes, there is the fact that he is the only 7th ranger, which is kind of cool... and the ghostwriter thing actually amuses me to no end (I wonder how old he is? Think he'd like to sneak into the girls' shower rooms?)... but, well, he hasn't really done anything yet.
Well, he can fight, obviously. This is good. However, the thing that kind of irks me is that he comes out rather computerized and robotic. He doesn't seem to have much of a personality. I mean, if YOU 1) suddenly got changed into a ball of light via time warp and 2) suddenly the future you knew, no matter how rotten it was, was gone, wouldn't you at least show some emotion? The voice of Sam has conveyed almost nothing about the actual character. Is he happy to be in this previous time? Is he upset because his home is gone? Does he want to change back to his human form or is he content just the way he is now?
I hope in future episodes he has actual conversations with the other rangers. It'd be cool if he'd tell them what they are (were going to be) like in the future, or even if they don't survive. Right now, though, he's more like a drone doing Cruger's bidding.
But he does know Capoeira. THAT totally makes my day. |

[Jul. 10th, 2005|02:08 pm] |
1) 2025?! Cool! This either A) means that it's been during 2025 the whole time and Sky could be both 20 and Wes' son or B) (which I think would be cooler) SPD has taken place over the period of 5 years. I KNOW that the original ads run by ABC Family/Jetix said that it took place in 2020. If 5 years have gone by, then the speed at which some character development has happened is more realistic. Plus, it gives me 5 YEARS to write fanfic in... eheh
2) I want a shot of Bridge and Syd on the floor - neato
3) The Cruger / Z relationship is there - I'm not sure what to make of it
4) Again, unmorphed fights rock. Especially chick fights. Yay
5) Continuity was better this episode - flashbacks from destroying Mora's doll and Fowler Birdie makes shows up again. Nice!
6) Morgana is SO better than Mora - she's hot and nasty instead of being petty and obnoxious
7) What were Sky and Z doing that actually had them walking together in the beginning of the episode? There's some fodder for Sky/Z fans.
8) The only thing I have to complain about it the rangers demorph/morph repeatedly and Morgana's on/off helmet thing. While I prefer unmorphed conversations, it was overdone.
9) Do you think RIC gets annoyed being left in Canine Cannon mode for extended periods of time?
10) I just gotta' say this was a kickass episode. It definitely goes on my top 5 SPD list. I'm actually excited to see next week's continuation! |

... which I will attempt to type whilst keeping my cat from clawing my shoulders to death. He thinks he can balance on them far better than he actually can.
1) When are they going to bring the Omega ranger in and will he be worth it at all? I'm really enjoying the current "thing" the rangers have going on and I'm not sure another character in the mix will be good
2) Syd and Z are the only characters showing any chance of a pairing. This makes me sad - I miss my Ban/Hoji moments.
3) Morgana is practically as childish as Mora. I know they're one and the same, but something about a grown woman acting like that is more obnoxious than a little girl
4) Doggie continues to need to take the stick out of his ass
5) SPD fandom has got me down... and then occasionally up. People hate the show with vehemence but watch any way. It's making it difficult to continue "Earthquake" which is now 2-3 weeks behind schedule
6) Sky is hot. Kat is hot. Sky is tall. Kat is tall. They are both smart and are prone to respecting and hating Doggie at the same time. I think Sky/Kat fic would be fun.
7) When is the whole "Your parents were involved in SPD" plotline going to come back? I really, really want to see where it goes. I also want the explanation on how Sky, born pre-2001, acquired powers (though I'm assuming this will be ignored).
8) I want to know what episode the explosion from the opening comes from - it looks like a particularily angry explosion, and this makes me happy
9) I like unmorphed SPD fights - it's neat when the rangers actually use their powers
10) Someone already said it, but I, as well, wish for a map of the SPD academy. It currently makes no sense. I also want to know who's bright idea it was to make the entire base into a zord/whatever Dekaranger called it. |

| On Abandoned |
[May. 2nd, 2005|12:32 am] |
Okay, I understand everyone's protests - Abandoned was not the best SPD episode out there. However, having read everyone else's reviews beforehand, I was terrified to even see it! The thing of it is - I didn't think it was so bad after all!
I agree on one thing, though. I don't like Cruger. Somehow the Kruger of Dekaranger came off as kinder, even fatherly sometimes. Space Patrol Delta Cruger is just an asshole. He's already the tallest one around, so he can't have a Napoleon complex... though it does make me assume the big blue dog is compensating for ~coughs~ somethin' else.
This being said, the episode was actually pretty good. I liked the first training scene - though Cruger kicked their butts at least it was all in training. THE CAST HAS FINALLY COORDINATED THEIR MORPHING CALL! ~fan girl squeal~
I love the scenes where the rangers are just relaxing together. They're actually behaving as a team without losing their identities (mostly). Jack's still lazy - Sky's still uptight - Bridge is still goofy (I, for one, would love a tricked out bed) - Z's actually showing some attitude again - and Syd is being her usual girly self... and they're all getting along doing it. Yay!
I will admit to watching the pajama scene 5 times before I was able to continue with the episode. Jack's still in cruddy white PJs, Sky sleeps in his uniform, and Syd and Bridge's run-in was priceless.
The silly old man did a piss poor job explaining "the evil." I still don't really know what happened. He did, however, provide us with a pretty neat fight scene. Pointless, but neat.
I'm getting more comfortable with the rangers being morphed. It's starting to become less of a neccessary interruption and more as flowing with the characters... and with that senseless statement I realize I should probably rewrite this tomorrow morning when I'm not falling asleep at the keyboard.
Doggie sucked at the end. I thought the message of the ep. was "You can do it," not "Let's apologize to Cruger."
So I'm kind of figuring the reason so many people hated the episode was because of Doggie... but even Kat was pissed at him throughout it. I'm figuring we were supposed to come off hating him. In that respect, I suppose Abandoned was a success. |

[Apr. 13th, 2005|08:47 pm] |
My boyfriend is 25. I am 22. Despite this, we both have our silly "childish loves," mine being Power Rangers (obviously). He does not understand this obsession, alas, but doesn't complain either.
At least that's what I thought until last night...
I recently purchased the first 12 episodes of Dekaranger to find out where SPD came from. He has been watching them with me because he finds Japanese people amusing. When it gets to episode #6, he says "Wait - didn't we already see this in the American version?" It occurred to me then that he's been watching the series with me all along. I still dismissed it as a fluke.
However, later last night, as I checked LJ one last time... I heard a distinct ending themesong from the bedroom... there are few things funnier than hearing your anti-PR boyfriend sing-songing "Deka, Deka, Dekaranger" over and over again ^_^ |

| Earthquake part 1 |
[Apr. 6th, 2005|07:25 pm] |
I'm writing this in my private journal instead of the SPD crew's journal because, well, the entire story isn't finished, and something about that tells me not to put it in...
Plus this week I'd rather rec everyone else!
First chapter of Earthquake is up! |

http://www.petitiononline.com/fanfics/petition.html
You know, I used to be a closet fan of certain band-related fanfiction on ff.net, and while I was bummed when said fanfic was wiped out, I understood. I'd far rather ff.net exist without that part than be sued and not exist at all.
Just some irritated responses to some of the complaints:
"What is the difference between an anime, tv show, or a movie and a real person? I mean either way someone owns the material or someone lives the life!" No, someone does not live the life of a TV character, book character, cartoon character, etc. This is why they are called "characters." Could it be possible that celebrities don't want false stories written about them? How would we like it if someone took our personality and turned it on it's end? For example, changing a kind, well-meaning person into a violent, angry individual or vice-versa probably isn't appreciated.
"While we're on the subject of those discontinued catagories and the NC-17 rating, they should also let us write in script/chat format! Some of my fics... It's such tedious work to go through my fics and change the format"
Oh, boo hoo. Everyone else has to work to make their fic decent for their audiences. So should this person. A little effort never killed anybody.
"Taking NC-17 and real-people categories was a bad move on ff.net's part. They are only slowly killing themselves. As when they do that, authors will just become very uhappy bitter sour whatever and leave ff.net. You cant stop us from posting ANYTHING for we'll just leave you and move on to make another site great."
Again, has this person ever heard of a lawsuit? I agree that it stinks that NC-17 stories are not allowed any more, but I understand why. Another petition-signer blamed kids' parents for letting them see such high rated stories, but let's get real. Kids will sneak around to do what they want and most are pretty good at hiding it. To say it is the parents' fault is calling children imbiciles. Therefore, the easiest way to cease access to these stories is not to place them online at all.
"Whats the difference of writing about a character and a real person?"
What's the difference between this person and an angry toaster?
"whats the point in not leting people post what they want, you can't stop the inevitable, poeple will write these fan fictions and they will fight for their rights to post!"
ff.net is not saying that no one can write these fanfics. They're saying they don't want to go down with the ship. Feel free to keep writing and fighting. They probably won't care.
And to the multitudes of posts whining "Now where will we go?" or something to that effect... read your fellow posters letters. A number of individuals helpfully included new sites. Or, better yet, make a website yourself!
And, last note, I truly hope that the peition's title "Read the Fan Fiction Authors Unite! Give Us Back Our Write To Post! Petition" was meant as a pun. |

| Intro |
[Mar. 20th, 2005|12:26 pm] |
Welp, here I am... starting a second LJ account just so I can cover my PR fangirl-ness... not that I actually update my normal journal, anymore. Something about recording one's thoughts for the world to see always did creep me out.
That being said, I somewhat feel the need to actually introduce myself to those who may wander onto this LJ and want to know the "Gal behind the Chyck." Then again, who really bothers with that stuff? Then again-again, I'm going to do it anyway. I babble.
I'm not going to say my real name, as I'd prefer to go by "Chyck" for the PR fandom. Something about having a nickname always appealed to me. Alas, having the boring and easily-remembered name that I have, it was never meant to be. Am I a true dork for giving myself one? Yes.
I'm a 22 year old chick with a degree in psychology. I currently work at an elderly home as an activities assistant, which really means I'm the entertainment. I can honestly say that I love my job (so far - I only started it 3 weeks ago). I mean, how sweet is it that I get paid to chat with people and run games and stuff? Plus, it turns out that one can learn a lot from one's elders.
I currently reside in the Seattle, WA area, though I originally hail from the western half of Massachusetts. I miss home because my family and horse are there (BIG horse geek, here), but I do not miss the snow or freezing temperatures. I moved because my wonderful and equally geeky boyfriend moved. So far, it rocks.
I have two cats named Sammi and Caesar who compete for bedspace, and the boyfriend has a multitude of fish that he keeps killing.
I also have a draft horse named Button, who I sadly had to leave in MA with my parents. I miss him more than I can express, and am saving my pennies for the day when I can ship him out here. In the mean time, I am leasing a former racehorse named Chad (I didn't name him!) and training him to event. I sometimes ride a horse named Baker, as well. Yes, I am horse-crazy at age 22. My ultimate dream is to own a boarding stable and run horse shows.
Other hobbies include writing, various crafts, video games, dancing, hiking, kayaking, etc. I need 40 hours in the day instead of 24 to do everything I want to and yet nobody will grant my request.
I think that's me in a nutshell - stay tuned, you lack of readers, you, for a journal of primarily PR fandom schtuff. Ciao! |
